Pothole Season

As the snow season comes to an end here in Michigan and the rainy season begins, the population of – dare I say the word…potholes grows. The unexpected mini grand canyons catch everyone off guard at least a few times during this time of year and can be fatal to your car and its tires.

Todd Wenzel can help you with your pothole calamities! Come in for the pothole special – we will align your front end for just $59.95 so it can stay strong this season!

So how exactly is a pothole born?

The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) enlightens us:

Potholes begin after snow or rain seeps into the soil below the road surface. The moisture freezes when temperatures drop, causing the ground to expand and push the pavement up. As temperatures rise, the ground returns to normal level but the pavement often remains raised. This creates a gap between the pavement and the ground below it. When vehicles drive over this cavity, the pavement surface cracks and falls into the hollow space, leading to the birth of another pothole.

While the MDOT keeps up with the potholes as best they can, we know they can only tackle so many a day. So the Michigan Transportation Team (MTT) tries to help us keep a sense of humor about the asphalt monsters by conducting a contest for the largest pothole – the grand prize winner gets $318…the average cost of a repair caused by a pothole.
