EcoDriving Tips

With Earth Day right around the corner on Wednesday, April 22, we thought we would remind you that keeping the environment like new is a priority at Todd Wenzel. We were only given one ecosystem and we all have to work together to help it survive for generations to come. Responsibility using vehicles is one step to helping. We give you suggestions to kick off your EcoDriving routine that is supported by many Governors, and we hope you will join us in following them. Not only will the air you breathe feel a little fresher, you will save an average of 15 cents per gallon by giving these tips a chance. Do it for the environment. And if nothing else, do it for your pocketbook.

- Plan your trips with a navigation system or map out your drive.

- Instead of the warm-up, your car really only needs 30 seconds before you drive.

- Avoid sudden starts – accelerate and brake gently.

- 60 mph is the optimal speed. For every 5 miles above 60 you push, you spend 20 cents more per increment.

- Air conditioning should be used if you travel between 60 and 40 mph. Over or under this speed you should let fresh air flow through your vehicle.

- Keep your tires inflated.

- Read your owner’s manual so you are aware of your car’s capabilities.

- Use recommended motor oil.

- Be sure to keep up-to-date with oil changes and engine tune-ups.

- Replace air filters frequently.

- Make sure the gas cap is on all the way.

- Remove access or unneeded weight from your vehicle.

We will have these videos playing at both the Hudsonville Secretary of State and the Centerpointe Mall Secretary of State on the televisions to help make your wait more enjoyable.
